Launa D. Romoff
Statement

I consider my art, in the medium of collage, a re-composition. The forgotten and unwanted are orchestrated into a familiar but newborn synthesis that, I hope, will evoke in others a desire to connect to it. It is interesting to me that people look into my work, not directly at it, just as I do when I create it. I find my materials everywhere, which I combine by instinct onto the canvas. The result is at once personal and familiar because the materials used are common and easy to recognize. This allows the viewer to identify more easily with the composition.

It is also important for me to impart to a larger audience that it is conceivable to begin a career in art at any time in life; that age does not matter. I would like to make it possible for people, who are interested in the creative process (both young and not so young) to understand that though they may not know how to draw or paint figurative images, it is altogether plausible to find an art medium that will allow their distinct talent to emerge.

Bio

Launa Romoff has been working with collage/mixed media since 1997. She has been inspired by the work of Kurt Schwitters, regarded by most as the 20th Century master of collage. Ms. Romoff finds her material everywhere, because, by working in this medium, she believes you learn to see the beauty of the discarded and turn it into art.

How I use the material at hand is often more important than the material itself. - Kurt Schwitters
