2001 SYMPOSIUM
BOLD, YOUNG & OLD:
WOMEN IN THE ARTS

A one-day symposium on creative life transitions organized by the Southern California Women’s Caucus for Art (SCWCA)

With speakers, panels and a special performance, this symposium will open your eyes to new ways to thinking about creativity and life transitions.

The symposium with commence with a keynote address by Eleanor Antin. The
morning panel, “Powerful Transitions,” will examine the participants’ creative approaches to life transitions. An on-site performance by Barbara T. Smith will be held at 2 p.m. The afternoon panel, “Career Phases: Emerging, Building, Sustaining,” will explore the participants’ innovative responses to stages in their creative lives.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Keynote speaker Eleanor Antin (http://visarts.ucsd.edu/faculty/eantin.htm) is an internationally known visual artist whose work encompasses performance, installation, film and video. Her credits include solo exhibitions at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art and Whitney Museum of Contemporary Art.

SCWCA BACKGROUND
The Women’s Caucus for Art is the national organization for women actively engaged in the visual arts professions. The WCA is dedicated to the cultural, aesthetic and economic support of all women’s art. The WCA is also committed to non-sexism and non-racism in art education, art exhibitions and art history. The Southern California Women’s Caucus for
Art (SCWCA) chapter, a non-profit organization, focuses on the specific needs and interests of local women in the arts.
