Scarlet Cheng (art writer), Susan Elizalde-Holler (ceramic sculptor), Cheri Gaulke (artist and Woman's Building board member), Ann Isolde (historical researcher for Judy Chicago's The Dinner Party), Mahyar Nili (video artist and founder of the UCLA fem-in-art student group), and Barbara T. Smith (performance artist) will be the catalysts who jumpstart the conversation by sharing their perspectives on “Female, Feminine, and Feminist.” Then we’ll break into smaller groups. So come prepared to share your “F” word thoughts!
This program is organized as part of The Feminist Art Project in support of three exciting exhibitions: Hive Universe: Nancy Macko, 1994-2006 (Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery through February 4), Multiple Vantage Points: Southern California Women Artists, 1980-2006 (Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery opening February 25), and WACK! Art and the Feminist Revolution, 1965-1980 (MOCA opening March 4).
Lucy Blake-Elahi is a painter, public artist, and art educator. She is an adjunct professor at West Los Angeles College teaching art history and drawing. As the Southern California Regional Coordinator for "No Limits for Women in the Arts," she has been leading support groups for women artists for ten years, and has twice been the President of the Southern California Women's Caucus for Art.
DIRECTIONS: Take the Santa Monica (10) Freeway west. Exit at Lincoln Boulevard and turn right. Continue to Santa Monica Boulevard and turn left to 7th Street. Park on the street or turn right at 7th Street to access the parking structure under the library. Once inside the library, ask the attendant at the Information Desk how to get to the Multipurpose Room on the second floor.
