Artist Statement
I was schooled in the style of classical painters but my approach to the canvas comes from an improvisational point of reference much like that of a group of musicians creating a piece of music. My paintings and mixed media pieces are inspired by my love of color, textures and by original photos taken on my travels. They evolve through a combination of painting, photography, printmaking, and collage to convey a captured moment in time.

Bio
Debra Dobkin got her start as a young artist in the Art Institute of Chicago children’s program. She has been creating art and music in Los Angeles since 1976. In addition to pursuing a life in the visual arts, she is an accomplished percussionist/drummer, having played on hundreds of recordings and performed in concert settings around the world. While traveling and playing music professionally, she has continued to study, draw, photograph and paint. Her work now holds the richness of those experiences.
Dobkin has exhibited in Los Angeles, around the US and internationally. In February 2020 her painting A Crown Of Green Leaves was awarded first prize in a juried exhibit at San Fernando Valley Art & Cultural Center. She currently resides in the greenish pastures of Studio City, CA.
