Visual art and SCWCA boldly entered my life forty years ago — just ten years after moving to our Malibu family home in 1975. Much of my early works that excavated the past, Spector”s Cave or expressed colorful energies Plentitude and Duality were lost in the fires. Other artworks that recorded women’s lives (Women Washing) and Night Angel were also lost. I am particularly saddened that a wonderful collection of small works by women artists including Hope by Nina Jun perished. Many were purchased in support of nonprofits (AWBW, Avenue 50 Studio, WCA) and in fact World Globe was created for a Children’s Nature Institute auction. A bonus for me along with artmaking is participating in communities of women artists. I love that my art is hosted at WEAD and the WCA Legacy Project. It is also a major privilege to have an off-site studio meaning some larger paintings, materials and books survived. Last summer I hosted Cathy Salser and AWBW in a multi-generational “Palisades Resiliency Pod” that helped re-activate my own studio practice and produced. Art always anchors our homes & lives with meaning, beauty and connection.
